816 Day Is Here: Celebrate KC’s Favorite Holiday at NatureMed

816 Day Is Here: Celebrate KC's Favorite Holiday at NatureMed

816 Day Kansas City is more than a date on the calendar. If you call the KC metro home, you already know the 816 is more than an area code. It’s a point of pride, a shared identity, and every August 16th it becomes a full celebration of everything that makes this city worth repping. At NatureMed, we’re right here in the 816 and proud of it. Whether you’re a lifelong KC native or someone who got here and never left, this one’s for you.

A City Built on Character: KC Through the Years

Kansas City has a history that punches well above its weight. In the early 20th century, KC was one of the most important jazz hubs in the country, with 18th and Vine serving as the beating heart of a scene that launched legends. The city was also a railroad crossroads that shaped the Midwest economically for generations. From the stockyards to the jazz clubs, from the early BBQ pits that became institutions to the civil rights milestones that defined the city’s character, Kansas City has always had more depth than the national spotlight gives it credit for. The 816 carries all of that history, and 816 Day Kansas City is a chance to honor it every August.

Cool KC Spots to Enjoy After You Shop

Kansas City has no shortage of places to take in the city while you’re feeling good. Here are a few worth knowing about:

Loose Park is one of KC’s most beloved green spaces, sitting in the heart of the Waldo/Brookside area. It’s peaceful, walkable, and perfect for an outdoor sesh with good company and a blanket in the grass.

Penn Valley Park offers a sweeping view of the downtown skyline from the hill near the Liberty Memorial, one of the most underrated views in the city. Catch it at sunset and thank us later.

The Riverfront Heritage Trail runs along the Missouri River and gives you a completely different perspective on KC, especially if you want to move and clear your head after a long week.

Crossroads Arts District is ideal if you want to wander, grab food, and take in local art and murals after picking up your products. First Fridays bring the whole neighborhood to life, and the area has that creative, walkable energy that pairs well with a mellow high.

Swope Park is KC’s version of a real urban wilderness, one of the largest urban parks in the country, home to the Kansas City Zoo and miles of trails. If you’re the outdoor type, it hits on a warm August evening.

Cannabis Culture in KC Is Something Real

Since Missouri legalized adult-use cannabis in November 2022, the KC metro has built a cannabis community that’s genuinely its own. Longtime consumers, curious newcomers, people looking for relief, people looking for a good night out, all of them have walked through our doors and made NatureMed what it is today. The 816 showed up for local cannabis in a real way, and we don’t take that for granted. 816 Day Kansas City is a good reminder of why we love being part of this community.

What to Pick Up Before August 16th

Not sure what to grab before you head out? Flower is always a solid choice for a familiar, versatile experience. Vapes are great for portability if you’re out exploring the city. Edibles are perfect for a slower burn that carries you through a long afternoon at the park. And if you’re rolling with a group, pre-rolls are an easy crowd-pleaser. Our budtenders at every location can point you toward something that fits whatever you’ve got planned for 816 Day.

What’s Actually on a Cannabis Lab Report? A Beginner’s Guide to COAs

What's Actually on a Cannabis Lab Report? A Beginner's Guide to COAs

Cannabis products come with a lot of numbers. Percentages, abbreviations, and test categories that can feel overwhelming if you’ve never looked at one before. But that little document, called a Certificate of Analysis or COA, is one of the most useful tools you have as a cannabis consumer. It tells you exactly what’s in the product you’re buying, and learning how to read it takes less time than you’d think.

What Is a COA and Why Does It Exist?

A Certificate of Analysis is a lab report issued by a third-party testing facility. In Missouri, licensed dispensaries are required to carry products that have been tested by an accredited lab, which means every product on our shelves has a COA attached to it. The whole point of this document is transparency. It verifies potency, checks for contaminants, and confirms that what the label says matches what’s actually inside the package.

The Potency Section: THC, CBD, and the Rest

The first thing most people look at is the potency panel. This is where you’ll find the cannabinoid breakdown, including THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, and others. You’ll usually see two numbers: the percentage of each cannabinoid and sometimes the total milligrams per gram or per serving. For flower, THC is listed as both THCA (the raw, non-psychoactive form) and Delta-9 THC (the active form after heat). Total THC is the number that actually matters for understanding how potent a flower will be after you smoke or vaporize it. For edibles and extracts, the active THC content is already calculated for you.

Terpenes: The Section Most People Skip

Below the cannabinoid panel, most COAs include a terpene profile. Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its distinct smell and flavor, but they do more than that. Research suggests terpenes interact with cannabinoids to shape your overall experience, a concept often called the entourage effect. Common terpenes you’ll see listed include myrcene (earthy, relaxing), limonene (citrusy, uplifting), and caryophyllene (spicy, often associated with stress relief). The higher the percentage of a terpene, the more present it will be in the aroma and effect profile. A robust terpene panel is often a sign of a quality, well-grown product.

Residual Solvents and Pesticides: The Safety Tests

This section is where the COA does its most important consumer protection work. Residual solvent testing applies mainly to concentrates and extracts. During the extraction process, solvents like butane or ethanol are used to pull cannabinoids from the plant. Testing confirms that those solvents were properly purged from the final product and that levels are below the state’s legal limits. Pesticide testing checks for agricultural chemicals that may have been used during cultivation. You want all of these to come back as “ND,” which stands for Not Detected, or within the acceptable threshold listed on the report.

Microbials, Mycotoxins, and Heavy Metals

These three categories round out the safety testing panel. Microbial testing looks for things like mold, yeast, E. coli, and salmonella. Mycotoxins are toxic compounds that can be produced by certain molds. Heavy metals testing checks for contaminants like arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury, which can make their way into cannabis plants through soil or water. Again, you’re looking for ND or values that fall within the legal safe range. A clean pass across all three of these categories means the product has met Missouri’s safety standards before it ever hit the shelf.

How to Actually Find a COA

Most cannabis brands print a QR code directly on their packaging. Scanning it usually takes you straight to the COA for that specific batch. You can also ask any of our budtenders at NatureMed and they can pull it up for you or help you walk through what you’re looking at. Some brands also post their lab results on their websites. Batch numbers on the label correspond to the batch number on the COA, so always make sure those match before you rely on the document.

Shop Smarter at NatureMed

Now that you know what to look for, you can shop with a lot more confidence. Whether you’re checking potency before trying a new concentrate, scanning for your favorite terpene profile, or just making sure a product passed its safety tests, a COA gives you real information to work with. Our budtenders are always happy to help you find products that match what you’re looking for, and we keep a full selection of lab-tested cannabis across all five of our Missouri locations. Check out our daily deals to find great products at great prices, or browse our full online menu to see everything we currently have in stock.

8/1 Edible Day: Everything You Need to Know About Eating Your Greens

8/1 Edible Day: Everything You Need to Know About Eating Your Greens

August 1st is 8/1, better known as Ate One Day, and it is the cannabis community’s favorite holiday dedicated entirely to cannabis edibles. Whether you are new to THC edibles or a longtime fan, this is the perfect day to learn more about one of the most popular cannabis consumption methods available at licensed Missouri dispensaries. From how cannabis edibles work to how to find your perfect dose, this guide covers everything you need to know to celebrate 8/1 the right way.

What is 8/1 Ate One Day?

Not every cannabis holiday gets the recognition it deserves, but 8/1 Ate One Day is quickly changing that. Celebrated every August 1st, the date is a playful nod to the experience of eating a cannabis edible, since “8/1” sounds just like “ate one.” It has grown into a community-wide celebration of all things edibles, from first-timers finally giving them a try to seasoned consumers discovering new favorites. Think of it as the cannabis world’s version of a foodie holiday, except the star of the show is THC.

A Brief History of Cannabis Edibles

Cannabis edibles have been around far longer than most people realize. Ancient cultures incorporated cannabis into foods and drinks for medicinal and ceremonial use long before gummies and chocolates ever existed. In the United States, cannabis edibles started gaining mainstream attention in the 1960s, but it was not until regulated adult-use and medical markets emerged that they became the lab-tested, consistently dosed products we know today. Missouri dispensaries now carry a wide range of premium cannabis edibles that reflect just how much the industry has evolved, from precisely dosed gummies to fast-acting infused beverages.

How Do Cannabis Edibles Work?

Cannabis edibles work differently than smoking or vaping, and understanding why makes a big difference in how you approach them. When you eat a THC edible, it passes through your digestive system and gets metabolized by your liver, which converts THC into a compound called 11-hydroxy-THC. This form of THC is more potent and longer-lasting than what you get from inhalation, which is why cannabis edibles tend to produce stronger, more full-body effects that can last anywhere from two to six hours. The onset is also slower, typically between 45 and 90 minutes, so patience is key. Eat a cannabis edible, wait the full window, and let your body do its thing before reaching for more.

Your Cannabis Edible Dosing Guide

Dosing is hands down the most important part of having a good experience with cannabis edibles. Most products at licensed Missouri dispensaries are sold in 10mg THC servings, which is the standard dose for recreational consumers. If you are newer to THC edibles, starting at 2.5mg to 5mg is a much smarter move. Everyone’s body responds differently based on metabolism, tolerance, body weight, and whether you have eaten recently, so what works for one person may be way too much or not enough for another. A good rule of thumb is to start low, go slow, and give yourself at least 90 minutes before deciding whether you need more. Our budtenders at any NatureMed location are always happy to walk you through your options.

Types of Edibles You Will Find at NatureMed

One of the best things about shopping for cannabis edibles at a licensed dispensary is the variety. At NatureMed, you will find classic THC gummies, chocolate bars, hard candies, caramels, infused beverages, and more, all lab-tested and clearly labeled with dosage information. You can also explore different cannabinoid profiles depending on your goals. THC-dominant cannabis edibles are great for recreational use and stronger effects, while CBD-blended options offer a more balanced, mellow experience. Products featuring minor cannabinoids like CBN can support sleep and relaxation, and fast-acting nano-emulsified edibles are a great pick if you want effects that kick in closer to 15 to 30 minutes rather than waiting the full 90. There is genuinely something for everyone.

Tips for a Great Edible Day Experience

A little preparation goes a long way when it comes to cannabis edibles. Eat a light meal beforehand so your stomach is not completely empty, which can cause THC edibles to hit faster and harder than expected. Pick a comfortable, familiar environment, especially if it is your first time, and have water and snacks close by. Clear your schedule so you are not watching the clock, and if you are new to cannabis edibles, having a trusted friend around is never a bad idea. One more thing worth repeating: do not mix cannabis edibles with alcohol. The combination can intensify effects significantly and make for a much less enjoyable experience than either one on its own.

Cannabis Edibles vs. Other Consumption Methods

For a lot of consumers, cannabis edibles have become the go-to method because they require no inhalation at all. That makes them a great fit for medical patients, older consumers, or anyone who simply prefers not to smoke or vape. THC edibles are also discreet, easy to carry, and simple to dose once you know what works for you. The longer-lasting effects are a real bonus for people using cannabis edibles for sleep, chronic pain, or anxiety relief, since you are not having to redose every hour or two. Of course, every consumer is different, and part of the fun of visiting your local Missouri dispensary is getting to explore all the options available to you.

Celebrate 8/1 Edible Day with NatureMed

This August 1st, treat yourself to something good. NatureMed carries a carefully curated selection of premium cannabis edibles across all five of our Missouri dispensary locations in Kansas City, Gladstone, Independence, St. Louis, and O’Fallon. Say Hello to Batch by Bud & Mary’s, Now at NatureMed

Say Hello to Batch by Bud & Mary's, Now at NatureMed

There is a new name on the shelf, and it comes with one of the more interesting backstories in cannabis. NatureMed is now carrying Batch by Bud & Mary’s, a science-driven brand that has spent nearly a decade building a reputation across Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, and now Missouri. We are starting with the two products Batch is best known for: 2g all-in-one disposables and 2g 510 cartridges, available in ten strain-specific options between them.

The Story Behind the Name

Bud and Mary are real people. Bud and Mary Nelson were Iowa entrepreneurs who founded Kemin Industries in 1961 out of a vacant wool barn outside Des Moines with $10,000 in savings. Their first product was a silage preservative that helped farmers protect their crops. Bud mixed ingredients using a Maytag washer, and Mary ran operations from the kitchen table, balancing the books while raising five children. That business grew into a global plant science company serving customers in more than 120 countries.

From Plant Science to Cannabis

Their son, Dr. Chris Nelson, grew up with that same curiosity about what plants could do. In 2016 he founded MedPharm Holdings in Colorado, and the following year secured one of the first licenses in Iowa’s brand new medical cannabis program. The BATCH Signature vape line debuted in Colorado in mid-2018, and that December, MedPharm Iowa became the first operator to legally sell medical cannabis in the state. In 2022 the company unified under a single name, Bud & Mary’s, as a tribute to the parents whose values started it all.

Standards You Can Actually Verify

This is where Bud & Mary’s separates itself from a lot of the field. The company controls or directly partners on cultivation, manufacturing, formulation, packaging, and retail, which means fewer unknowns between the plant and the cart in your hand. Their production process meets cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and GACP (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices) requirements, and they were the first pharmaceutical-grade cannabis company in the United States to earn a cGMP and cGACP certification. They also hold a Colorado Cannabis Research License, a first in the country, with an in-house research team supporting their formulation work.

The 2g All-In-One Disposables

The all-in-one format is ready straight out of the box, no battery or charger required. On the Flavors side, Dazzleberry leads with a show-stopping balance of sweet blueberry and tart raspberry, while Lemon Drop brings bright citrus with a smooth vanilla finish. The Signature line goes strain-forward: Purple Urkle is skunky on the nose and tastes like grapes and sweet berries, Skywalker 600 layers sweet fruity berry over spicy earth on the exhale, and Durban Poison delivers the earthy, subtly sweet pine profile that has made it a daytime classic for decades.

The 2g 510 Cartridges

If you already have a battery you love, the 2g cartridges are the easy pick. Juicy Melons is a refreshing melon blend that balances sweet and floral, and Shwazzberry keeps it simple with a harmonious mix of sweet berries. On the Signature side, Lemon Cookies layers bright lemon zest over sugary cookie dough with a soft vanilla finish. Tahoe OG is the bold one, mixing gas and banana custard with fruit salad and a cool spearmint edge. And Jack Herer rounds it out with sweet and sour citrus up front and a woody pine exhale.

What Is Coming Next

Batch runs an ongoing campaign called Aware-n-Us, launching a limited edition flavor each year tied to a cause. In 2025 they released Strawmelon in partnership with CanPlay to help fund all-inclusive accessible playgrounds in underserved communities. Coming in August 2026 is Lolli Pawp, a sweet cherry flavor supporting nonprofit animal rescue groups. Bud & Mary’s also has a five-pack of kief infused pre-rolls in the works, so this first drop is very likely not the last thing you will see from them on our shelves.

Come Find Your Batch This Week

A family legacy in plant science, certifications almost nobody else in cannabis holds, and ten strains built for people who actually care what their vape tastes like. Batch by Bud & Mary’s is in stock now at our Kansas City, Gladstone, Independence, St. Louis, and O’Fallon locations, and our budtenders are ready to help you pick your first one. Check the daily deals to see what is discounted at your store today, then browse the online menu and order ahead for pickup or delivery.

Introducing Super Fog: The Vape Brand You Need to Know

Introducing Super Fog: The Vape Brand You Need to Know

NatureMed is always on the lookout for brands that bring something genuinely different to the shelf, and Super Fog by Mfused is exactly that. Born out of Washington state in 2012, Mfused has grown into one of the nation’s top-selling cannabis vape brands, known for smart hardware, clean extraction, and products that actually deliver on their promise. Now Super Fog has officially made its way to Missouri, and we are excited to carry it across our NatureMed locations.

What is Super Fog?

Super Fog is Mfused’s consumer-facing brand, built around the idea of choosing your own adventure with cannabis. The lineup spans multiple extract styles and potency levels, so whether you are chasing flavor, intensity, or a full-spectrum flower-forward experience, there is a line designed for you. The brand currently includes four collections: VIBES, TWISTED, FIRE, and LOUD. At NatureMed, we are stocking TWISTED and LOUD, the two lines that cover the widest range of what our customers are looking for.

TWISTED: Bold Flavor, Big Potency

TWISTED is built for people who want it all: high-strength concentrate paired with flavor that actually stands out. Each TWISTED vape is made with melted THCa diamonds for serious potency, then blended with all-natural terpenes to create flavor profiles that feel both exciting and familiar. If you tend to gravitate toward carts that hit hard and still taste good, TWISTED is the line worth reaching for first.

LOUD: Full Spectrum, Flower-Forward

LOUD takes a different approach, and for a lot of consumers, it is going to be the more meaningful upgrade. It is crafted as a High Terpene Full Spectrum Extract, made from cannabis grown by trusted partner farms. The extraction process is designed to preserve the plant’s natural flavors, aromas, and full cannabinoid profile, which means what you get in the vape closely mirrors what you would expect from the flower itself. If you care about a smooth, complex, true-to-plant experience, LOUD is your line.

FIRE: High-Potency with Live Resin Terpenes

FIRE steps things up with a concentrate crafted from melted THCa diamonds and live resin terpenes, which sets it apart from standard high-potency options. Live resin terpenes are extracted from fresh-frozen cannabis rather than dried plant material, which means they hold onto more of the plant’s natural complexity. The result is a vape that hits with intensity while still delivering a rich, authentic flavor profile. If you want the power of a diamond-based extract with the added depth of live resin, FIRE is the way to go.

The Jefe Device: How it Works

All three lines are available in the Jefe all-in-one device, and it comes in 1g and 2g options so you can choose based on how often you vape. The Jefe is draw-activated, but the power button gives you more control than most all-in-ones on the market. To use it: click the button five times quickly to turn the device on or off, and three clicks to cycle through voltage settings so you can dial in your preferred temperature and hit intensity. It is a small detail that makes a real difference, especially if you are used to disposables that only give you one setting.

Which Super Fog is Right for You?

If you are new to Super Fog, here is a simple way to think about it. Go TWISTED if you want high potency with bold, terpene-driven flavor and do not mind a more intense experience. Go FIRE if you want that same high-potency diamond base but with the added richness of live resin terpenes. Go LOUD if you want something smooth and full-spectrum that stays close to what the flower actually tastes and feels like. Not sure? Our budtenders at any NatureMed location can walk you through the current strains available in each line and help you find the right fit for your routine.

Ready to try Super Fog for yourself? Check out our daily deals to see if TWISTED, FIRE, or LOUD are on special this week, and browse our online menu to find them at your nearest NatureMed location.

FECO 101: A Guide to Full Extract Cannabis Oil

FECO 101: A Guide to Full Extract Cannabis Oil

If you have spent any time browsing the menu lately, you have probably seen FECO pop up and wondered what makes it different from everything else on the shelf. FECO stands for Full Extract Cannabis Oil, and it is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of isolating specific compounds, FECO captures the entire plant, cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and all the other goodness, into one concentrated product. It is one of the most potent and traditional forms of cannabis extract you can find, and it has earned a loyal following among folks who want the full plant experience in a small package.

What Makes FECO Different

The biggest thing that sets FECO apart is the extraction process itself. Because it pulls from the whole plant rather than refining out individual cannabinoids, FECO tends to have a broader, more complex profile. You get a thick, dark, often syrupy oil that smells and tastes like cannabis because, well, that is exactly what it is. There is no fancy flavoring or dilution here. This is about as close to raw plant material as you can get in concentrate form, which is part of why it has such a dedicated fan base.

A green cannabis flower bud next to a dark glass tincture dropper bottle on a bright white surface, illustrating liquid Full Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO) products.

Ways to Take FECO

FECO is pretty versatile when it comes to consumption. The most traditional method is taking it orally, often measured out in small amounts using a syringe and placed directly under the tongue or swallowed. Some people prefer to mix it into food or drinks to mask the strong flavor. Others incorporate it into their own homemade edibles or capsules. You will also find FECO available in pre-measured capsule form, which takes the guesswork out of dosing and makes it a lot easier to keep things consistent from one use to the next.

Water Soluble Capsules Are Worth Knowing About

If you are looking at capsule options, it is worth understanding the difference between standard oil based capsules and water soluble ones. Water soluble capsules are formulated so your body can absorb them more efficiently, which generally means they kick in faster than a traditional oil capsule. Standard FECO already has a reputation for hitting hard, but water soluble versions can ramp up even quicker because of how the formulation interacts with your system. That faster onset is a big reason some people specifically seek these out, especially if they are looking for a more predictable timeline.

A dark plastic FECO syringe filled with potent Full Extract Cannabis Oil resting across a fresh green marijuana leaf on a textured burlap background.

Who FECO Is For

FECO tends to appeal most to experienced cannabis users who already have a good sense of their own tolerance. Because it is so concentrated, it is generally not the best starting point if you are new to cannabis products. It is also a great option for anyone who wants the full spectrum experience rather than an isolated compound. If you have tried other concentrates and felt like something was missing, FECO might be the more complete option you have been looking for.

When to Use It

Timing matters with FECO. Because of how strong it is, this is usually a product people reach for when they have a clear stretch of time ahead, like an evening at home or a relaxed weekend with nothing on the schedule. It is not really a grab and go kind of product. Giving yourself plenty of time to see how it affects you, especially the first few times, is just smart practice with something this concentrated.

How to Use It

Whichever method you choose, the golden rule with FECO is the same one budtenders repeat for a reason: start low and go slow. Begin with a small amount, whether that is a tiny portion of oil or a single capsule, and give it time to settle in before deciding whether you need more. Onset time can vary quite a bit depending on the method, so patience really does pay off here. Keeping a simple log of what you tried and how it felt can also help you fine tune your approach over time.

Find FECO at NatureMed

FECO is a unique option for anyone wanting the full plant experience in a concentrated form, and between traditional oil and water soluble capsules, there is a method that fits most preferences. Curious to try it for yourself? NatureMed Voted Best Dispensary, AJ Gardner Named Best Budtender in The Pitch KC’s Best of 2026

NatureMed Voted Best Dispensary, AJ Gardner Named Best Budtender in The Pitch KC's Best of 2026

We have some news worth celebrating. NatureMed was just named Best Dispensary in The Pitch KC’s Best of KC 2026 awards, marking our second year in a row taking home the title after our first win in 2025. On top of that, our own AJ Gardner from the Gladstone location took home Best Budtender. Both titles were decided by community votes, which makes this win mean even more. It is one thing to be recognized by a panel of judges. It is another to be voted for, back to back, by the patients who walk through our doors every day.

A Back to Back Win for the Whole NatureMed Team

Winning Best Dispensary once is an honor. Winning it twice in a row tells us something different, it tells us that the trust people place in NatureMed is not a one time thing. Best Dispensary is not a title any one person earns either. It reflects the work of every budtender, every store manager, and everyone behind the scenes who helps make a NatureMed visit feel easy, welcoming, and informed. From Kansas City to Gladstone, Independence, O’Fallon, and St. Louis, our team shows up every day to help people find what works for them. This back to back win belongs to all five locations and everyone who has supported us since 2025 and beyond.

Meet AJ Gardner, Your Best Budtender Winner

AJ has built a reputation at our Gladstone location for being knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely invested in helping patients find the right product for their needs, and the title means everything to her. “This recognition honestly means the entire world to me,” AJ said. “Not only does it warm my heart, but it also blows my mind that I was able to win. There was an overwhelming amount of love and support poured out from our patients, they were all so kind and excited about the entire process. A big thank you to all of you!”

AJ’s path into cannabis started years before NatureMed. “I’ve been on the ins and outs of it for a while. I had my first smoke shop job four years ago, which taught me a ton about glass and accessories that go along with smoking,” she explained. “After that I went on to have a few more random jobs and then landed at another smoke shop, where I learned more about management and inventory. Then I turned 21! As soon as I did, I started looking into different places to work, and decided on NatureMed.” Her connection to the plant is personal too. AJ was diagnosed with endometriosis in April of 2025, and she has found that cannabis products are the only thing that come close to actually helping with her pain relief. She has been part of the NatureMed team since September of 2025.

When a patient walks up not quite sure what they need, AJ has a simple way of narrowing it down. “I always ask them exactly what they’re looking to get out of the effects,” she said. “From there, I’m able to figure out what to hook them up with, especially terpene wise. As for what they enjoy, I normally just ask them what their preference would be. Some people enjoy smoking, some enjoy edibles, and that’s okay!” Her own favorites change as new products come in, but right now she is reaching for “Dialed In gummies, Vertical’s new Live Resin gummies which haven’t launched quite yet, Bambino blunts, Local and Robust hash rosin and live rosin, and local flower.”

Thank You, Kansas City

Wins like these do not happen without people taking the time to vote, and we know that takes effort, especially two years running. To everyone who voted for NatureMed and for AJ, thank you. We see you, and we are grateful for the trust you place in us every time you choose to shop with NatureMed. This is the kind of recognition that pushes us to keep raising the bar across every location, every product line, and every patient interaction. Whether you have been with us since our first Best Dispensary win in 2025 or you are still looking for your first visit, there has never been a better time to stop in and see what the fuss is about. Honoring Juneteenth: Freedom, History, and Community

Honoring Juneteenth: Freedom, History, and Community

Juneteenth is one of the most significant holidays in American history, and its recognition has only grown in recent years. Observed every June 19th, it marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received word that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. For NatureMed, Juneteenth is a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the resilience, culture, and contributions of Black Americans, both historically and in the communities we serve today.

What Is Juneteenth and Why Does It Matter?

On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and all enslaved people were free. This news came roughly two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. The delay represented the slow reach of federal authority into Confederate-held territory and serves as a reminder that legal freedom and lived freedom are not always the same thing. Juneteenth is a celebration of that moment of arrival, and a recognition of the long road that came before and after it.

A Federal Holiday With Deep Roots

Juneteenth has been celebrated by Black communities for over 150 years, long before it received official recognition. In 2021, it was signed into law as a federal holiday, making it the first new federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983. That recognition was meaningful, but the holiday’s significance was never dependent on government approval. It has always been a day of community, food, music, storytelling, and pride. Traditions vary by family and region, but the spirit remains the same: freedom is worth celebrating, honoring, and protecting.

The Connection Between Cannabis Justice and Juneteenth

Juneteenth and cannabis justice are more connected than many people realize. The War on Drugs disproportionately impacted Black communities for decades, resulting in arrests, incarceration, and lost opportunities at rates far exceeding those of white Americans, even when usage rates were comparable. As cannabis legalization continues to expand across the country, including right here in Missouri, it is important to acknowledge that history and advocate for a more equitable industry going forward. Supporting Black-owned cannabis businesses, pushing for expungement policies, and centering equity in the legal market are all ways the industry can honor the communities most harmed by prohibition.

How to Honor Juneteenth This Year

Juneteenth is best celebrated with intention. If you are looking for ways to observe the holiday meaningfully, consider supporting Black-owned businesses in your area, attending a local Juneteenth festival or community event, or learning more about Black history beyond the classroom version. Kansas City and the St. Louis area both host Juneteenth celebrations worth checking out. The 18th and Vine Historic Jazz District in KC has long been a cultural cornerstone of Black history in the city, and events around the holiday often reflect that rich legacy.

NatureMed and Community

At NatureMed, community is not just a word we put in a mission statement. It shows up in the way our budtenders serve every customer who walks through the door, in the local events we participate in, and in our commitment to being a dispensary that reflects the diversity of the neighborhoods we operate in. Juneteenth is a reminder of why that commitment matters. We are proud to serve customers across Kansas City, Gladstone, Independence, O’Fallon, and St. Louis, and we believe that a dispensary rooted in respect and inclusion makes the whole experience better for everyone.

Welcome the World Cup to Kansas City: Celebrate Every Match at NatureMed

KC Is Ready for the World

Kansas City has always been a city that shows up. From its legendary barbecue scene to its championship-caliber sports culture, KC knows how to host. This summer, the city steps onto one of the biggest stages in the world as an official FIFA World Cup 2026 host city, welcoming fans from across the globe to one of the most electric sporting events on the planet. Whether you are a die-hard football purist or just here for the atmosphere and the energy, the World Cup in KC is going to be something special. And at NatureMed, we want to help you experience every moment of it at your best.

Toke Around the World: Our Official World Cup Watch Party

NatureMed is teaming up with Franklin’s for a free outdoor cannabis consumption watch party you do not want to miss. The NatureMed and Franklin’s Present: Toke Around the World Cup Watch Party goes down on June 20 at the 18th and Vine lawn in Kansas City. The event is free to attend, open to guests 21+ up, and set against one of the most iconic backdrops in the city. Come out, enjoy some cannabis in good company, and watch the World Cup the right way. Check out our official event page to reserve your free ticket before they’re gone!

Make a Full Day of It in KC

The World Cup is a reason to explore everything this city has to offer, not just the matches. Before or after the game, grab some of the best barbecue in the country along KC’s legendary restaurant row on the Plaza or in the Crossroads Arts District. Take a walk through the 18th and Vine Jazz District, catch some live music, or explore the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for a slower-paced afternoon. The River Market is a great spot for a morning stroll before a big match, and Worlds of Fun is always a solid option if you are traveling with a crew. KC has a lot going on this summer and the city is absolutely ready to show visiting fans what the Midwest is made of.

Not Just a KC Moment, a Missouri Moment

Here is the thing about the World Cup: the excitement does not stop at the city limits. Fans from all over the state are going to be tuning in, traveling through, and making a trip out of it. That means our St. Louis locations at Kingshighway and O’Fallon are ready to celebrate right alongside KC. Whether you are a St. Louis native heading west to catch a match in person, or you are cheering from home on the other side of the state, NatureMed has a location near you. Consider it one big statewide watch party, and we are proud to be part of it from KC to STL.

What to Shop for Match Day

Not sure what to grab before the opening kickoff? Here are a few ideas to get you started. If you are hosting a watch party, a variety of pre-rolls or a sampler of vapes can be a great way to keep things social without anyone feeling like they need to commit to a single strain all afternoon. For solo viewing sessions on the couch, a good indica-leaning flower or an edible might be your best friend for settling in and enjoying a long match. If you want to stay sharp and social, a low-dose option or a sativa-forward product can help you stay in the mix without losing the thread of a fast-paced game.

Your Missouri Dispensary, Ready for the Season

NatureMed is a multi-location Missouri dispensary brand with five locations built to serve both KC and St. Louis metro areas. Our Gladstone and Independence locations are natural starting points for KC-area fans, while our Kansas City location puts you right in the heart of the action. No matter where the match takes you, there is a NatureMed close by.
